Shilton & Barnacle Parish Council aims to provide a high quality service. However, there may be occasions when things go wrong and you wish to complain, either about the parish council as a whole, or about an individual councillor, or about the Clerk. If you do wish to complain, the code of practice that has been adopted by the parish council and is attached at the bottom of this page will help guide you as to the best way to do this, as well as explaining how the parish council will deal with your complaint once it has been received. If you do wish to submit a complaint, you should either contact the Clerk, or the Chairman.

The Freedom of Information Act 2000 gives the public the right to access information held by public authorities (including Shilton & Barnacle Parish Council). The parish council is required to publish certain information about its activities, and members of the public are also entitled to request information from it. It is hoped that there will be trust and confidence in the parish council if it is seen to be open about its activities, and provides the information requested of it by members of the public. The parish council is required to have a ‘publication scheme’ that sets out its commitment to make information routinely available, such as policies and procedures, minutes of meetings, annual reports and financial information. The ‘publication scheme’ for Shilton & Barnacle Parish Council is available at the bottom of this page. If you wish to make a Freedom of Information request, please contact the parish council clerk.

Shilton & Barnacle Parish Council considers the health, safety and wellbeing of its employees, contractors and members of the public who use its services and facilities to be of utmost importance. Its health and safety policy sets out its responsibility to ensure that services, facilities and public meetings are accessed by everybody in a safe manner. It also sets out the responsibility of third parties to ensure that any concerns regarding health and safety are brought to the attention of the parish council immediately. If you require any further information regarding the health and safety policy of the parish council, please contact the Clerk.

Everyone has a duty to ensure that all children, young adults and vulnerable adults are protected from coming to any harm. The ‘Safeguarding Children, Young Adults and Vulnerable People Policy’ outlines the practices that will promote the safeguarding of these groups when they are involved in activities organised or promoted by Shilton & Barnacle Parish Council and its associated working groups. If you would like further information on this policy, please contact the Clerk.

Councillors are not paid a ‘salary’ for the role that they carry out, but are entitled to be reimbursed for any expenses that they incur in undertaking duties on behalf of Shilton & Barnacle Parish Council. The travel and expenses policy sets out the circumstances in which these costs can be reclaimed.
